After reading your article, I have started praying, that may Almighty Allah send Mister Ghalib as ambassador/High Commissioner to Australia. Or have many like him cloned and made Pakistan’s ambassadors around the world. I believe the Pakistan’s missions overseas, just cannot see, Pakistanis living in another country happy and for this reason they do their utmost to make their life more difficult than ever.
I have lived in Queens land for over 30 years and I needed to send an urgent power of attorney back home to Pakistan. I filled in the required power of attorney, had it certified and stamped from a duly qualified JP, as required, I also had a statutory declaration made and signed by the same JP, attached the required fee and submitted the application with my original Pakistani passport and my national identity card, also original and sent it by registered post to the Pakistani mission in Canberra.
In view of the urgency I also telephoned the officer concerned and I was surprised to hear him demand by personal attendance. I reminded the officer, that Australia is not Monaco or Luxembourg and I happen to be living more than 1500 km away from the capital. I was surprised to hear the officer replied, that you need something from us, then you have to come or have it certified from the Australian foreign office and he further added, that people had come all the way from Western Australia which is even further away.
I then wrote to the High Commission and in reply I received an email from the Deputy High Commissioner Asima Rabbani, saying that either you come to the high commission personally or have it verified by the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She added, that’s power of attorney is “an important document” and the rules must be followed. It was her supreme ignorance to state that power of attorney was an important. It makes me so mad that at times I am tempted to renounce my citizenship. They just want to make life difficult
