Good article but sadly the people who you are trying to caution will take any notice and not even read this article. Pakistani leaders have not realised that a lot of people have moved forward and they have developed awareness about the affairs of the state. No more can the ruling classes ram their ordinances down the throats of common people. I certainly do not see the likes of Sharif family not behaving like the Saudi Royals and attempt to declare themselves as the Amir ul Momineen for the end of time. Yes it is a little too early and we all have to give PML-N time but looking at the DHANDHLI activities of PML-N during the elections the signs are not good.PML-N’s intentions do not seem to be transparent or clear and they seem just to be an extension of the PPP rule!!!

In your column you have named leaders of vision and foresight, but in Pakistan, we do not have leaders who have such qualities.
In Pakistan, blind are leading the blind. They have no vision other than making money and promoting their own respective families.
if I may take the opportunity and mention one more illustrious name who had the passion to change the way Australians think and behave and his name is this Gough Whitlam. Who became Prime Minister in 1972 and within days of assuming office he changed the direction in which Australia had been going.
Within days of assuming office, the Australian government recognised China, ended conscription, abolished death penalty, ended the war in Vietnam for Australians, provided Medicare for Australians, abolished higher education fees and host of other things.
in Pakistan we talk about Islam, but we do not practice it. We want our privileges to continue we want the elite criminals be treated with courtesy and respect which they do not deserve. In Australia and for that matter for the rest of the world, a criminal is a criminal and is treated just like another criminal without any regard to his position. The Chief of police was jailed for corruption and he served his sentence like a common criminal. in Pakistan, in the first place, the chances are, that there will be no conviction recorded against him and if by any chance, which is highly unlikely, he is convicted, he would be given a privileged position even in jail
if I may say so, our system is flawed. Loyalty to the party leader is regarded Paramount, it is regarded above conscience or principles
Pakistan is perhaps the only country where the ELITE CAN LITERALLY GET AWAY WITH MURDER… and as long as the present elitist friendly system of governance continues there will be no reforms in Pakistan. There are great hope pinned on Imran Khan because he is the only person who speaks the language of reforms and equality. However fairly or unfairly Nawaz Sharif has snatched the victory and great hope are now pinned on him to implement the desperately needed reforms in Pakistan. It is early days but the signs are not good because it seems that PPP and PML-N have colluded and have vowed to cover each other’s corrupt practices!!! Unless some leaders has the metal to take punitive action against the culprits of the corruption and embezzled funds just talking about it on the media will not discourage the guilty. Severe punishments have to be meted out to those implicated in the scams to loot the state otherwise it will be business from them as usual and Pakistan will never recover. It is vital that NS does not cowl down to any blackmail and pressure from any unscrupulous politicians. He should expose them and handout exemplary punishments to those guilty of the heinous crimes of corruption against the state.
